Vintage Cubes

I really enjoyed decorating these mdf cubes to create some home decor with a vintage vibe! Let me share my process in making a stamped background and embellishing with cute collage clusters.....

Usually I create a masterboard with collage, stencils and paints but today I wanted to create a stamped background. I simply had fun pulling out a range of stamps and filling in an A4 sheet of card with them. It can be helpful to start with the larger stamps and working down to smaller stamps to fill in the spaces.

I stamped with Versafine Clair Fallen Leaves which is water resistant so it doesn't move when paints or inks are added on top.

I added light coloured acrylic paints to create some variation.

I added some stencilling over the top to create further layers and marks.

I also 'distressed' some of our monochrome doodle papers with distress inks and coffee :)

I painted the 3 cubes in black, sanded and dry brushed with Buff Titanium. I also added Ground Espresso Archival ink around the edges.

I cut panels from the stamped background and the inked papers to fit the 3 different size cubes and adhered them.

I then pulled together lots of elements to make little focal points and collages on the sides of the cubes. I heat embossed some of our mdf lock and key embellishments and cut numbers from the Lucky Number stamp as well as bits of fabric and thread. Washi tape, rub ons and all sorts of ephemera work well on these little gathered clusters.

I didn't add embellishments to the top or bottom of the cubes.

I love that they look different from all angles!

Of course, you can use the stamped backgrounds and collage clusters on cards or journal pages too :)

This was a fun project to make - the background makes it easy to decorate the cubes and the clusters are a great way to use up scraps. They are also really relaxing to put together on a rainy day! You can make lots in one go and keep them on hand to embellish future projects. I will definitely be making another batch soon.

I hope that you enjoy this project and it gives you inspiration for ways that you can combine your stamps and ephemera to make unique pieces of home decor! Do you make stamped backgrounds to create your own types of 'patterned paper'? I would love to know!

Bye for now,
