Welcome to Studio Chat!

Come on in, lovely friends, I am starting a blog to share projects, crafty musings and scribblings from my studio! I want this to be a relaxed, informal space to share creative ideas, work in progress and things that inspire me. Hopefully it will be a welcoming place for you to grab a brew and have a chat.

To blog or not to blog?

To be honest, I have been thinking about starting a blog again for some time. I used to have a blog years ago....in fact, that is where the name for Funky Fossil came from! However, when I started the business and plunged headlong in to the manic world of shopping TV and social media my focus switched to generating a high volume of quick content...I had deadlines to meet, shows to promote, products to sell and there just wasn't time for the more gentle pace of my blog.

And then I began to wonder if blogs were still relevant. Do people even read them anymore?

However, as you may know, earlier this year I decided to step away from the frantic pace that I had been working at and press 'reset'. I wanted to reconnect with the creative joy that inspired Funky Fossil in the first place and to take the time to let my art practice evolve. It is difficult to experiment and take risks if we are under pressure to make 'perfect' samples that can be used to market products. I will chat more about letting go of perfectionism another day but it was definitely getting in the way!

As a result, I have had a fabulous few months simply learning, playing and making - my creative batteries are recharged and I feel that now is the perfect time to return to blogging. I think it is a lovely way to reflect and connect and hope you will enjoy the content...let me know what you would like the blog to cover and we can create it together!

What to expect....

As with all things, I am sure that our Studio Chat will evolve over time but this is what I currently have in mind:

  • Step by step projects

  • Current inspirations

  • Peeks behind the scenes

  • Reflections about craft and art

Sound good? Let me know what you would like to see....

See you again soon,

Can’t believe I’ve only just found your blogging.

I missed a lot of what was going on in the world last year with eye issues, so had no idea you were blogging till tonight so been lovely way to spend Saturday evening.

So glad your putting yourself, your mental health etc first.

My hubby did the same just over 2 years ago he was working in management for a company he’d worked for 35 years , since he was 13 during weekends & school holidays & then from 15 Full time. He’d previously always loved his job but it became way oo much stress, and was making him very ill, his two coworkers who were in the same position one…

Yes to blogging!!!

I would like to see some posts about your project design process, things like talking about your preferred layout style of diagonals, what your experience and preferences are and why you like them.. How you use the rule of thirds, Groupings , repetition of marks, stamping only part on the page. That sort of thing.

I remember Craft Stamper magazine doing a whole series on design principles back in 2012 or thereabouts and it completely changed and improved the quality of my projects and gave me confidence in finding my own style.

I still have all my Craft Stamper magazines from when Katie was the editor, and I still browse them regularly and find inspiration in them.

Thank you :) I am excited about the space that blogging provides. Your suggestions are all really helpful and give me great ideas for future content. I loved Craft Stamper magazine - I learnt a lot from it....I wish that I had my old copies :)
